Being Discriminated Against For Wearing Lolita- For Being Different.

This post was made by a friend of mine and a local lolita on facebook after being harassed by the security at my local mall during a meet up. It outrages me that this even happened. Please share this story! Not posting her name because I’m not sure if she wants me to.

PLEASE share this with your friends! Augusta mall- my story of discrimination, harassment, threats, illegal detainment, simple assault by mall security when I committed no crime. If this happened to your daughter, how would you feel?

Discrimination, harassment and abuse by mall security supervisors. This happened against my small group of friends while we were at the Augusta Mall this weekend and it was really disappointing and wrong all by itself. We were asked to leave (we assume based on how we looked, though we were fully clothed and family friendly). We were not loud. We were spending money (I have receipt and merchandise to prove it). We were given no explanation of what rules we broke. This is discrimination. Our questions were met with hostile and snide responses, and we were nver told why we were being ejected. As we left peacefully into the parking lot, I was stopped and detained by security, though I had broken no rules or laws. I was cornered by a man at LEAST twice my size. He hovered over me yelled at me in the face (I could smell his smoker’s breath) that I was not allowed to leave, that cops were on the way and that I was being arrested (illegal detainment), and that he would see to it personally that I was prosecuted (threats). He yelled in my face that I was violating his personal space and privacy after HE approached ME. He threatened me. He was asked to move away from me by bystanders who viewed me as being in harm’s way. I felt physically threatened by this man that was hulking over me and yelling. Bear in mind that I had done nothing wrong and was leaving the mall at the time. This has negatively affected me.

So where do I stand? As a direct result of the confrontation, I have been frightened to be in public. I find myself anxious, jumpy, and unable to concentrate to properly perform my work tasks. I found myself suffering from anxiety in the presence of a security guard at the movie theater after this incident, and had to be calmed by the present company and told that nobody would approach or harm me. Again, this was a direct result of being detained, threatened, and yelled at by a security officer at the Augusta Mall after I already agreed to peacefully leave, and then was stopped by him. I posed no threat to him personally, though he claimed that I did. I was smaller than him, and unarmed. This confrontation has negatively affected me and I am currently in the process of seeking counsel about it.”
